Information

At Treska Cattery, we prioritize the health, temperament, and socialization of our Maine Coon cats. Our breeding practices are designed to ensure the well-being of our cats and the quality of the breed. Learn more about our approach to breeding exceptional Maine Coons.

Health Testing and Genetic Screening

All of our breeding cats at Treska Maine Coons are fully DNA tested and health screened through reputable laboratories and veterinary specialists to ensure the strength and integrity of our lines. Each cat is tested for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM A31P mutation), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKDef), and is also veterinary-screened for hip dysplasia, a condition that can affect large breeds. In addition, we review each cat’s genetic diversity and color profile to guide thoughtful, responsible pairings. This thorough approach reflects our belief that excellence begins long before the show ring—with a foundation of health, integrity, and genuine love for the Maine Coon breed.

Matching Breeding Pairs

At Treska Maine Coons, our approach to matching a breeding pair is guided first and foremost by temperament and health, rather than color or cosmetic traits. Because our cats descend from proven CFA Grand Champions and TICA Champions, we already know our lines meet—and mostly exceeds—the official breed standard. This allows us to focus on what truly matters: producing kittens who are healthy, well-adjusted, and filled with the sweet, gentle personality that makes Maine Coons so extraordinary.

Raising kittens

From the moment our kittens are born, they are surrounded by gentle handling, affection, and daily human interaction, helping them grow into confident and loving companions. Each kitten receives regular veterinary care, including wellness checks, vaccinations, and age-appropriate preventative measures to ensure a healthy start in life. Our kittens remain with us until they are 12 to 14 weeks old, allowing ample time for socialization, development, and a smooth transition into their forever homes.

Socialization

Our kittens are lovingly socialized from the moment they’re born, growing up as an active part of our family life. They’re handled and interacted with throughout the day, exposed to normal household sounds, and taught that people are their friends and snuggle providers. This daily interaction helps them develop into confident, affectionate companions who adjust easily to new homes. We also take great care in vetting every prospective family, ensuring that each kitten is placed in a home as loving and committed as the one they were raised in.
