Products We Recommend at Treska Maine Coons
Maine Coons are not just big cats—they’re a whole different experience. Their size, coat, and playful personalities mean that some products work beautifully for them… and others simply don’t hold up.
Over the years we’ve tested countless items while raising our own Maine Coons, and the products listed here are the ones that have truly earned our approval. These are things we actually use in our home and cattery every day and are in no particular order.
If it made the list, it passed the Maine Coon test.
We use and recommend these products in our home and cattery. As an Amazon Associate, Treska Maine Coons may earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Every commission earned is reinvested into our cattery, allowing us to raise and breed exceptional Maine Coons.
This stainless steel litter box is large enough for Maine Coons and helps control odor much better than plastic boxes. It’s also incredibly easy to clean. Available on here.
Maine Coons are known for doing everything a littler bigger - including mealtime. This elevated water bowl provides a more comfortable drinking position while helping keep water contained. The sturdy wooden stand and wide ceramic bowl offer stability for enthusiastic drinkers who enjoy splashing, pawing and turning hydration into a full-contact sport. They are easy to clean, attractive and keep water off the floor. Available on Amazon.
Keeping a Maine Coon’s coat free of mats can sometimes feel like a full-time job. This small seamstress kit may seem unconventional, but it works wonderfully for working through small mats before they become a bigger problem. I find it much easier to use these yarn scissors to cut through mats than conventional scissors. The seam rippers slowly work away at mats without causing pain to these gentle giants. You can find them on Amazon.
When bringing a new cat or kitten home, having a safe and quiet space for them to adjust can make the transition much easier. A multi-level cat cage provides a secure area where your new Maine Coon kitten can relax, eat, and use the litter box while gradually becoming familiar with their new environment. It’s especially helpful when introducing a new cat to other pets in the home. Stevie has always viewed her cage as a safe, comfortable space — never as punishment. As a kitten, she would often choose to sleep and relax there on her own, and now while pregnant she naturally seeks it out as a quiet, secure haven. Having a familiar space of her own helps reduce stress and gives her a calm environment where she feels safe and comfortable while preparing for and caring for her kittens. This one can be found on Amazon.
A cabinet-style litter box enclosure helps hide the litter box while still giving your cat easy access and privacy. It can make the litter area look much cleaner and more organized in your home. Be sure to check the dimensions carefully so your litter box fits properly inside. You can find this one, which we have in our home, on Amazon. But there are many to choose from.
Maine Coons are natural climbers and a sturdy cat tree is one of the best investments you can make. Their large size and muscular build require a tree that can withstand daily use without wobbling or wearing out quickly. We prefer models with real carpeting rather than plush fabric because they provide better grip, last longer and hold up well to scratching. A quality cat tree quickly becomes a favorite place to climb, lounge, and supervise the household. As Maine Coons mature, owners may need to make modifications or upgrade to larger, reinforced cat trees so their full-grown cat can lounge and climb comfortably and safely. You can find this one here.
We recommend feeding Royal Canin Maine Coon Kitten food because it is specifically formulated for the unique growth and developmental needs of Maine Coon kittens. Maine Coons are a slow-maturing, large-breed cat that continue growing for several years, and this diet is designed to support healthy bone and joint development, muscle growth, digestion, and immune health during that important stage. The kibble is also specially shaped for the larger jaw structure of Maine Coon kittens, encouraging proper chewing and eating habits.
We also recommend transitioning to Royal Canin Maine Coon Adult food as they mature because it is specifically formulated to meet the nutritional needs of adult Maine Coons. The formula supports joint, heart, skin, and coat health while providing balanced nutrition appropriate for their large size and slower maturation. The larger kibble size is also designed specifically for the Maine Coon jaw structure and encourages proper chewing.
We've tried a variety of foods over the years, but Hill's Science Diet remains a favorite in our cattery. In fact, Julian has made his opinion very clear—Julian gets what Julian wants, and Julian only wants this food. Fortunately for him, it's a quality diet with balanced nutrition that supports healthy digestion, skin, coat, and overall health.
Good nutrition is one of the best investments you can make in your cat's long-term wellbeing, and this is one of the foods we feel confident recommending.
If there is a universal favorite toy in our cattery, it's these simple plastic springs. For reasons known only to cats, they provide endless entertainment. They skitter across hard floors, bounce unpredictably, and somehow remain fascinating long after more expensive toys have been forgotten. Our Maine Coons carry them from room to room, stash them in mysterious places and frequently drop them into their water bowls. It happens so often that we've jokingly started referring to the water dish as "spring water." If you're brining home a Maine Coon kitten, I'll likely give you at least one of these. But you can buy more here.
Let's talk litter. I've tried just about every brand out there, and Tidy Cats is hands-down my favorite. It's low dust, has excellent odor control, and clumps beautifully, making twice daily scooping much easier.
Anyone who owns Maine Coons knows that litter isn't something you can cut corners on. These are big cats, which means they leave behind big evidence of their existence. A quality litter is one of the most important products in a multi-cat household, and Tidy Cats has proven itself time and time again in our cattery. Get some here.
This is the ear cleaner we keep on hand in our cattery. It does a great job of removing wax and debris, is easy to use, and has been gentle on our cats' ears. To use, apply a small amount to a cotton pad and gently wipe the inside of the ear flap and visible portions of the ear canal. There's no need to use cotton swabs deep in the ear.
Regular ear checks and cleaning are part of our grooming routine, and this product has worked well for helping keep our cats' ears clean and healthy.
Having appropriate scratching surfaces for your Maine Coon kitten or cat is important for both their physical and behavioral health. Scratching helps cats stretch, maintain healthy nails, mark territory naturally, and relieve stress — while also helping save your furniture. At Treska Maine Coons, we provide our cats with multiple scratching options throughout the home, but this is one of their favorites and can be found on Amazon.
